Owner Nicholas Ng named this stylish cafe and brand after a land lot bequeathed to his father by his grandfather, who founded the family coffee roasting business in 1947. This high-end roastery's 18-25 different blends, sold to five-star hotels and other food and beverage establishments, are now offered via this Taiwan venture. Adjacent to China Medical University's Shiuinan campus and Taichung Central Park, the two-floor cafe has an airy, modern, minimalist decor dominated by 55's blue-and-white colors and various seating areas for those making a quick stop or lingering to read or work.
Signature coffees include classic and flavored (Coconut, Mango, Lemon, etc.) "American-Oh!" varieties (1990-135 nt) and Espresso, Gibraltar, Latte and Mocha options. Tea & specialty drinks range from Ice Java Black Teas (NT$60-75) to the proprietary, salty-sweet Crema Salta Milk Tea. For food, there are various croissants (NT$65)—like Ham & Cheese, Pineapple, Dubai Chocolate, and Coconut Pandan—cookies and rotating homemade desserts. 55's beans and creative merch, from tumblers to a portable chess kit, are also sold.
