Last fall, Coto Makassar's co-owners, Indonesian Nita and American Chris, opened a tiny eatery serving cuisine from Nita's home city of Makassar on Sulawesi island. They've now relocated nearby to much larger premises (seating 50-plus diners) and expanded their menu significantly. Besides previous specialties like the namesake peanut-based Coto Makassar Sulawesi Beef Stew (NT$200), new dishes include the coconut-based Pallubasa Beef Soup (NT$200), Bubur Manado porridge, Sop Konro (beef rib soup), and Konro Bakar (grilled beef ribs). Among other main courses (which include all-you-can-eat white rice) are two variations of Ayam Goreng Sulawesi-style fried chicken; filling chicken, duck, beef and lamb satay dishes (NT$300-350); Makassar-style Nasi Goreng Merah red fried rice; and Gado-gado Indonesian salad. For something sweet, order Pisang Coklat Keju chocolate cheese bananas, Pisang Epe pressed grilled bananas, Sulawesi Es Pisang Ijo green banana shaved ice dessert, and 18 Martabak Indonesian stuffed pancake flavors (NT$250-490/box), from Red Velvet and Pandan to Sticky Rice Choco Cheese. Drinks include Milo-topped Avocado Juice, warm Ginger Milk, coffee, beer and soda.
