This museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in the history and manufacture of music boxes. Inside the entrance is an introduction to musical movement brands and a timeline for music box movement company Kyooh. The variety of music boxes displayed includes antique hundred-year-old European boxes, antimony alloy boxes, shaking-head cloth doll boxes, decorative egg-shaped music boxes, and other boxes made of ceramic, wood and even table paper products, with the wooden version having the most resonant sound. An ordinary, but key, component is the music box movement and Kyooh’s Assistant Manager Lin Li-mei explains that all movements consist of a drum assembly, vibration plate, frame and many parts, noting that most music box movements in the museum were made in Taiwan. Visitors can take a break with some powerful music in an Orpheus Stage seating area at the back of the museum. Glassed-in display rooms featuring nostalgic fixtures and inspection tools and a vibration plate turning engineering space. They can also have fun assembling a music box in the DIY Room. A cafe serves basic drinks and snacks and outside there’s a fun toy train riding area and kid’s park.
