By appearance, Tang Family looks like any neighborhood restaurant, perhaps a little neater and cleaner than most. The food is what is special. Considerable thought and care has gone into making the dishes here a step above. The cook, Tang Meizhen (唐美珍), from Hunan Province in China, brings some special touches to Taiwanese classics–making them truly unique.
The Beef Noodles (NT$100) perfects the quality one most wants from a classic comfort food: it’s deeply satisfying. The soup is boldly flavorful, a deeply beefy Taiwanese broth with Chinese medicinal ingredients and hints of Hunan. The generous quantity of beef is impressively soft. Another classic comfort food, fried rice, is given a twist by featuring different flavors, such as Golden Fish Eggs (NT$80) and Roast Duck (NT$80), which is both hearty and delicately flavored. Ms Tang also cooks three spicy, authentic Hunan dishes: Hunan Duck Rice, Pig Leg Rice and Wugen Changwang Fan (all NT$100).
