The Wuhan coronavirus situation has left many people feeling like they’d rather be staying at home. However, in order to ward off this disease you need to boost your immune system with a balanced diet, regular exercise and plenty of rest time. To help with this, the Taichung City Government’s Tourism & Travel Bureau is inviting everyone to go hiking and enjoy a hot springs soak in Dakeng Scenic Area, nicknamed “Taichung’s Yangmingshan [Mt.Yangming]”. This popular destination offers trails with beautiful views, native trees and other ecological riches. Visitors can also enjoy a luxuriant hot springs session and savor local delicacies during a therapeutic excursion here.
The Tourism & Travel Bureau also reminds you to take this last opportunity to enjoy the spectacular lantern installations if you haven’t already visited this year’s Taiwan Lantern Festival, which will end soon. After hosting Taiwan Lantern Festival events in 2003 and 2015, this year marks the third time that Taichung City Government has been given the honor of holding this national event. This year’s Lantern Festival is also helping to promote and boost Taichung City’s industries, tourism, culture and local economy.
The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taichung has for the first time been organized according to local attributes, taking advantage of special regional characteristics to highlight three themed areas. These include the Mysterious Forest of Lanterns at the main festival site in Houli District. It starts with a Satoyama Dadi area that advocates a co-existence between communities and nature, with sustainable ecology, art and aesthetics fused with the themed lantern area to symbolize ethnic diversity and religious harmony. The “Art World” area at Houli Horse Ranch features a mix of traditional folk culture and modern and international elements, as traditional lanterns are combined with mechanical movements to create a spectacle that mixes classic, technological and multimedia effects. The secondary “Children’s Paradise” festival site is located at the Wenxin Forest Park and is also designed to provide families and children with a fun experience. Various themed lantern areas and performances here help transform this downtown location into a children’s forest paradise.
