Since opening on Feb. 4, the 2023 Central Taiwan Lantern Festival has been a popular success, attracting many visitors with its animated over-the-water lantern and light show. Due to the very positive public response, the Taichung City Government Construction Bureau has announced that extra events are being added to the festival. In addition to an LED-illuminated dance event on the opening day, there will be a Feb. 10 costume party and a Feb. 11 giant fluorescent robot performance. Mayor Lu Shiow-yen is inviting the public to stop by and experience these events and the many lanterns.
Construction Bureau Director-General Chen Da-tian said that the festival’s Magic Box World lighting area uses many large-scale art installations, sound and light projection effects, and other illuminated displays to transport visitors into a different storybook-like world. Usually only found in movies or the imagination, the artistic creations and strange exotic plants and scenery can be enjoyed by everyone, combining with various special lighting, sound and optical illusion effects to generate a unique landscape that makes visitors feel like they’re on a journey to a different planet.
In addition, Director-General Chen pointed out that Taichung Central Park is a growing park with new changes every year. In addition to a more diverse ecology with rich flora and fauna, park facilities are also constantly being optimized. Its brand-new Visitor Center links Taichung’s past (historical memory), present (knowledge and technology) and future (innovation and internationalization), combining the history of Shuinan Airport—which once occupied this site—with future knowledge and technological development while providing friendly service, allowing visitors to reflect on and enjoy its historical significance and high-quality smart technology services.
“I had a wonderful time at this year’s Central Taiwan Lantern Festival. It offers a truly unique experience that stands apart from previous events, thanks to the variety of fun, innovative areas, displays and effects that immerse visitors in other-worldly environments. This is something adults and kids will both really enjoy,” said Compass Magazine Co-Publisher Douglas Habecker. “I’m also very happy to see this event taking place at Taichung Central Park for the first time. The park seems better every time I visit it and the Lantern Festival is the perfect excuse to explore this impressive, sprawling green space with all its trails and other unique features.”
