Located near Shuinan Market and identified only with a small “Beiping” sign, this little no-frills eatery is a classic Taiwanese family-run “hole-in-the-wall” serving delicious, reasonably-priced Chinese cuisine.
The restaurant was first opened in Taipei about 40 years ago by owner Wang Wei-hua’s father, a native of Shandong province, before moving to Taichung in 1993. Today, Wang, his wife and father offer a variety of dishes, including very popular items like big “guo tie” fried pork-and-leek dumplings (NT$90 for 10); juicy beef “xian bing” Chinese meat pies (NT$50); and four types of thick hand-cut noodle dishes (small NT$70-90, large NT$100-130), including Wood Ear Mushroom Fried Noodles, Minced Pork Sauce Noodles, and Hot & Sour Noodles. There are also boiled dumplings, “cong you bing” scallion pancakes, four fried rice choices, and fried veggies. Fried dumplings and other customer favorites are made in limited quantities and frequently sell out, so it’s best to get there early if you want a taste.
